Put in Directions

Just like many of the great whitewater runs in Maine you must travel some bumpy dirt roads to get there.

You can set a GPS to Millinocket Lake Dam.

Otherwise, head out of town and follow signs to Baxter State Park and North Country Rivers. Travel until you see the Sawmill Bar and Grill and take a right onto the Stacyville Rd. If you come to the Wilderness Edge Campground you’ve gone too far.
Soon you will see Millinocket Stream on your right. When you can see rapids, you are at Turtle Pit Rapid.

  • At the first fork, stay left.
  • Soon after you’ll come to a T, turn right and cross a bridge over Millinocket Stream. This is Bridge 1.
  • Take an immediate left after the bridge to continue onto Stacyville Road. Follow a few more miles, and get occasional glances at the river on the left, until you come to Fire Road 11/Evergreen Way.
  • After another mile you’ll come to Millinocket Lake Dam. This is the put in.
